There are various diverse causes of thickened toenails. Fungal nail infections and periodic trauma to the nails are the more common form of thickened nails.
Age is a different bring-on of thickened nails, metabolic changes and reduced circulation to the nail can serve to the thickening.
Other causes
-
Psoriasis – a long-term condition that tends to also cause red, flaky patches of skin
-
Long-term pressure from shoes that are either too small or too narrow over the toes
-
Reactive arthritis – where the immune system parts of the body follow an infection
What should you do if you think I have a thick toenail?
It is recommended to have your nails checked by a HcPC Podiatrist or Chiropodist to find out how and why the nails have become thickened. Your podiatrist can examine your condition and give you the needed medicine and treatment to alleviate the symptoms and improve your condition.
How can our team help you?
Your feet should be evaluated by our podiatry group. Our accomplished group of podiatrists can re-shape the nail, diminish the mass, cut the nails properly or eliminate the nail. They will then, at that point, talk about your aftercare and audit arrangements as required.
The different treatment options will be discussed and a treatment plan will be outlined to you. We strive to educate the patient and provide them with the tools to stay injury-free.
